Hi-Tech Gadgets Top UK Christmas Lists    by John Steele

If you are looking to get all your Christmas shopping done quickly this year, a new study shows you may only need to visit one section of the department store to get something on everyone’s wish list this holiday: the electronics section. According to a new survey from shopping website VoucherCodes.co.uk, the top items on wish lists this year all pertain to playing media. Whether it be TVs, e-readers, music players or phones, it seems a simple sweater or lotion basket won’t cut it this year.

Topping the list, the survey reports, is an array of Apple products. The Ipad 2 and Iphone 4S top the list; and just below, the iPod Nano appears sixth. Apple expects its iPad 2 and newly released iPhone 4S to outsell all forthcoming iterations as a surge of interest in new features like voice command system Siri bring a host of new users to the Apple family.

Other hot items on the top five are the Kindle Touch 3D and the Kindle Fire. Amazon’s immensely popular line of e-readers have taken the world by storm, bringing reading to the on-demand world, offering the ability to buy and read books on the go. But UK residents may be disappointed to discover that the Kindle Fire and Kindle Touch are not yet available outside the US.

Third on the list are 3D TVs, offering the ability to watch movies and certain TV events in 3D. While many require glasses, some companies even offer 3D TV without glasses, bringing the newest visual innovation mainly popularized in movie theaters into the home. Many families are expected to purchase the TVs in bundles with movies featuring the visual technology.

Many popular electronics items are also expected to surge come holiday time, although currently appear a little further down on the list. The highly publicized Xbox Kinect video game system is expected to have its biggest sales of the year. Non-Apple tablets are also expected to do well. The Samsung Galaxy Tab has sold well leading up to the holidays, and officials hold out hope these numbers will continue. And, though their phone sales have fallen far behind competitors, Blackberry has distinguished itself from other tablets by allowing the fastest Flash capability, making it a perfect platform for playing internet videos and accessing sites that require Adobe’s ubiquitous digital processing platform.

From telecommunication devices and mobile internet platforms, connectivity to the internet appears key for holiday gifts this year. From phones to mobile tablets and even 3D televisions, adding internet capabilities and the ability to access mobile apps has made many electronic items must-haves for Christmas this year.
